One of the only ones I can think of is the Street Fighter 1 remake. Or maybe something like SF vs Art of Fighting or SF vs Fatal Fury 2 with the. I was doing a little reading on King of Fighters, and I remembered how confused I was by SNK in my early childhood, especially when browsing the arcades with the aim of picking a game to feed my quarters too. Eventually I settled on Samurai Shodown (which had a place at WalMart for the longest time). While I loved SamSho, I always wondered what was up with the multiple fighting series. (Too bad Last Blade wasn't around then.) I've come to find out that all three games take place in the same universe, which makes things even more confusing. So, what was the major differences between these three series? And on that note out of the titles, which is your favorite and why? If any of you feel like improvising and gushing about a particular game and why, please feel free. King of Fighters was originally released to be a kind of cross-over game featuring characters from a ton of SNK's properties. Smash Brothers, only with SNK characters. Since it was a fighting game like Fatal Fury and AoF, it borrowed the most from those two. Also, because it was so popular, it sort of spawned into its own franchise. ![]() As to canonical story between the three, that's debatable. It's probably the best to think of them more like the various XMen universes or the like. It isn't like the story is particularly strong in them anyway. Mark of the Wolves was the one that really did the SF3 New Generation type thing, the only character from the series was Terry, and even he had a new outfit. However, I guess Rock could technically be considered a recurring character as well because he shows up as a child in KOF 2002 in one of Terry's win poses. Also, 98 was kickass, but my favorite was 2002. Art of Fighting 3 was the one with freaking massive sprites though. I totally love Robert's outfit. The main difference though, as stated before, is that KoF brought characters from Art of Fighting, Fatal Fury, Ibuki Warriors, Psycho Soldier, and I think the boxing/sword duder from Kizuna Encounter is in there somewhere as well. ![]() The timelines are definately skewy though, Art of Fighting takes place in the 70s, but the characters haven't aged in the KoF games. I do believe that as far as storyline goes, Art of Fighting was originally set some time in the past like in the 70's and Fatal Fury was set in present day. The father of Terry and Andy Bogard appears in AoF.
